Mwuahaha

Well,

Just to update everyone ;)

A couple of years ago I got a proper job and bought a house with my long-term bf... then, far too quickly, I split up with said bf, quit my job and walked out on the house ^^

Which was good fun, kinda. Suffice to say, real life sort of grabbed a hold of me for a while :)

Things are sort of sorting themselves out, I hope :) I've taken a deep breath, and for the first time ever in my life, actually asked myself: what do you really *want* to do, hmm? There might be an answer or two :) I've met a bloke I think is lovely; I think he thinks I'm lovely too, which is handy. As for the future.. we'll see :)

As for writing...
I took a deep breath, last week, and read back through some of the stuff I was 'working' on. To be honest, I'm not so impressed ;) Who knows, I might change my mind, or maybe this was the kind of gap (chasm?) I needed to realise that if I ever intend to write, I need to up my game, put my real name down and be prepared for my 'dirty secret' to be public knowledge... or admit that it's purely a selfish indulgence, and for my eyes only :)

Anyway, I just thought I'd update here, for the curious - since yes, I have been lurking a bit to see how everyone else has been doing :)

Wishing you all best fortune, inspiration and opportunity -

TB

"You have 5172 unread messages"

I'm alive.
It's 02:39 on Monday morning.
I am looking at yahoo telling me: "You have 5172 unread messages"
Seriously. 5172. Despite unsubscribing from all yahoo groups before Christmas.
I'm thinking of the other email accounts I haven't logged into in a while.
I'm going to need more time.

Wassup?

Rumours of my demise/pregnancy/promotion/abduction/imprisonment/holidaying being, as they are, untrue (though worthy of due consideration as excuse material for my prolonged absence from the world of... wait... I'm babbling...) ... I'm feeling the need to absorb/hunt down some re-orientation material... hot gossip, wild tales of extraordinary adventures in publishing, and mindless natter would all be welcomed... I'll see if I can dig some out...

...seem to have a bit of a dot dot dot thing going on...

To boot, or not to boot...

Bad computer! Bad! Bad!

*Thankfully* (since I'm not so good at backing up my personal/booky stuff as my work stuff), the harddrive seems fine in all other respects, so all is not lost. Nevertheless, I now need to spend precious nano hours reinstalling my 'fun' programs and... oh, it's all very dull. *sigh*

Doomed! It's all...

Okay... I've cleared my side panel. November is Vamp month. Starting from Ch. 1, since I'm aiming for 25k. Coward, I know.

Now I just need to remember my nano login.

EDIT: 'Xoops!' - Was that tempting fate, or what? Nanowrimo is throwing errors at me like it's gonna win a teddy bear or something...

The awful truth about writing...

Okay, this is the post that hindsight will no doubt turn into a 'if only I'd known...' kinda thing.

First of all I am a dabbler. I'll admit it now, and I'll admit it loud. I run my own company, and the amount of time I spend dabbling tends to depend on how busy and how strapped for cash I am. I can and do work 18 hour days when I need to. I can and do work 2 hour days when I can ;-)

Now, for the on-topic topic... On the right hand side of this blog, I have a list of "progress counters" that I cunningly installed back in... ohh Jan 18th this year.

Back then, my list of projects went...

Vampire

New Hunt Story

Old Hunt Story

Kai

Stacey

Fantasy 001

Poppy

"Done"
Abacus

Vino

Now for the scary part... because, after months of opening word documents, typing, chatting, reading, plotting, character and world building, where am I at?

Well....

New stories begun...

Eclipse (inferno)

Fly in the Mud

Cat (fantasy)

Eton (rock vamp)

Continuing on from that post...

Vampire

Vampire - Ch1 short sub for Enchanted Ramblings

Vampire - now + subsequent storyline

New Hunt Story - untouched

Old Hunt Story - untouched

Kai

Kai - now (untouched since march)

Stacey

Stacey - now

Fantasy 001

Fantasy - 2nd attempt

Fantasy - 3rd attempt

Fantasy - 4th attempt *active*

Poppy - original version as in January - unchanged

Poppy - 2nd attempt - 3836 words

Poppy - 3rd attempt - 5208 words

Poppy - 4th attempt -dispairing - 820 words

"Done"
Abacus

Vino

Now, I'm looking at that list and seeing... ooh 11 unfinished stories, and a total of... *counts* 72898 new words. That's a friggin' book!!! Two, in the ebook world!!! What the heck am I playing at???

Epiphany, where the hell are you???

Club Dead - What book to read next?

(AKA Escapist Activity # 2571)

I read "Club Dead" the other day. Blummin marvelous book. Unfortunately, unable to satisfy urge to squander hardearned cash on next in series due to $20+ price tag. Hence the question arises.... what shall I read next, instead?

Fortunately, t'internet has the answer(s)...

www.Reader2.com says I should try...
  1. Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries)
  2. Dead Witch Walking
  3. Dead to the World
  4. Living Dead in Dallas
  5. Neverwhere
  6. Stolen
  7. Good Omens
  8. Dune
  9. A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry Novels)
  10. The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter)
  11. Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake Vampire Hunter)
  12. Every Which Way But Dead
  13. The Good, the Bad, and the Undead

www.fictionwise.com says I should try...

  1. Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris
  2. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
  3. Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris
  4. Dead as a Doornail by Charlaine Harris
  5. The Good, the Bad, and the Undead by Kim Harrison
  6. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
  7. The Lunatic Cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton
  8. Circus of the Damned by Laurell K. Hamilton
  9. Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton
  10. Caress of Twilight by Laurell K. Hamilton

http://www.librarything.com/work/16185 says I should try...

  1. Dead until dark by Charlaine Harris
  2. Living dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris
  3. Dead as a doornail by Charlaine Harris
  4. Dead to the world by Charlaine Harris
  5. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
  6. Bloody bones by Laurell K. Hamilton
  7. The good, the bad, and the undead by Kim Harrison
  8. The lunatic cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton
  9. Blue moon by Laurell K. Hamilton
  10. The Killing Dance by Laurell K. Hamilton
  11. Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison
  12. Undead and unemployed by MaryJanice Davidson
  13. Undead and unwed by MaryJanice Davidson
  14. A Fistful of Charms by Kim Harrison

And amazon says I should try...

  1. Dead to the World Paperback by Charlaine Harris
  2. Living Dead in Dallas (Southern Vampire Mysteries) by Charlaine Harris
  3. Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries) by Charlaine Harris
  4. Dead as a Doornail (Southern Vampire Mysteries) by Charlaine Harris
  5. Definitely Dead (Southern Vampire Novels) by Charlaine Harris
  6. Undead and Unwed (Berkley Sensation) by MaryJanice Davidson
  7. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
  8. Undead and Unemployed (Berkley Sensation) by MaryJanice Davidson
  9. Undead and Unappreciated by MaryJanice Davidson

So, I guess what they're saying is, I should DEFINITELY read...

  1. Dead until dark by Charlaine Harris
  2. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
  3. Dead to the world by Charlaine Harris
  4. Living dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris

...oh, damnit. I have read them..

Okay then, I should probably try...

  1. The lunatic cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton
  2. The good, the bad, and the undead by Kim Harrison
  3. Dead as a doornail by Charlaine Harris

Hmmm well, I *would* by Dead as a Doornail (I've read the others), but for the fact that it's currently out in hardback, and I'm a hardbacks-for-christmas-only kinda gal.

Speaking of which, Amazon has two odd men out that don't appear on any other list:
(Undead and Unappreciated by MaryJanice Davidson, and Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris). They are both hardbacks... no comment. (*glances at amazon coffers*) -

Meanwhile, Librarything's oddmen are the expected extra Hamiltons and Harrisons... and Reader2's?? - Well, they are Neverwhere, Stolen, Good Omens and Dune - All of which I've read and recommend, so I'd guess reader2 comes out a good bet for wildcard recommendations...

*TeeBee blinks are her last few posts and ponders purchasing a clipboard*

*Then toddles off to see if she can find Dead as a Doornail on ebay...*
